Mary Karen Phillips (69) passed away January 10th at home, surrounded by her family, after a short illness.
She is survived to cherish her memory by her husband, Rick Morton, a daughter Michele Paxton and son-in-law Andrew Paxton, grandchildren Anna Paxton (18) and Cole Paxton (17), a sister, Gina Breen (Kevin Archer), a nephew, Brendan Breen (Derek Curl) and a niece Kelsey Krages Simmons (Scott), and her loving canine companion, Moby Lee and her cat, Luna.
She was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy Lee Best Black, her father Neville Ray Black, and a sister Lisa Krages.
Karen was amazingly creative, generous, kind, unbelievably wise and insightful, intelligent and well-read. She was a collector of things and knew something about everything. She was a champion thrift shop shopper and could find a deal in a pile of junk. Most recently, she and her husband ran Key Research, a data collection and survey company. Previously she worked in various industries in research and development and quality control. An accomplished cook, she developed recipes for frozen food companies that are still in use today. She dedicated her whole heart to being present for her two grandchildren and cherished every second she had with them. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, wife and friend.
Expressions of sympathy can be made in Karen’s name to ASPCA. Cremation was chosen and Karen requested no service.
